Social Justice: A People's History of the South Bronx Walking Tour
A People's History of the South Bronx: An insight into the history and social justice activism during the 70's, 80's and 90's. The Bronx experienced devastation and disinvestment during the 70's and 80's, key organizations and activists formed community based programs to assist and empower disadvantaged adults in the South Bronx. You will learn about some of the challenges facing this area due to lack of funding and resources. This square mile pocket is slowly starting to change adding new jobs, tech coding for kids, healthier food options, affordable housing through city programs and civic engagement. Organizations played a pivotal role in maintaining fragmented families motivated and hopeful during the social and economic decline. We also visit Casita Maria one of the oldest charities to serve the Latino community in the South Bronx.
